Whickham School has always enjoyed a good reputation in the local community. Exam results are excellent and Ofsted reports consistently describe us as 'good with outstanding features'. However,current self evaluation identifies the school as outstanding. Parents when surveyed comment that the staff really care for the children they teach; former students look back with fond memories.

In May, the year 12 BTEC Engineering students were given the opportunity to head down the road to look around the Siemens Power Generation Factory. This trip gave the students a rare insight into themassive scale of some of the mechanical engineering works we have on our door step, right here in Walker. It will hopefully inspire them to consider Engineering as an option for further study or a career path. We'd like to thank Siemens for allowing us to visit.
The EFA, the government body who fund the building of new schools, announced on May 7th that Miller Construction are the company who will build the new Longbenton Community College! Work will starttowards the end of 2014 for the new school to open 18 months later.

Kelcie Bullock on Friday told her fellow Class of 2015 graduates that they chose to attend Middle College High School at Durham Technical Community College because they are mavericks. Lori Khan, whoteaches eleventh and twelfth grade science at Durham Tech Middle College High School, was named Durham Public Schools' teacher of the year. Ms. Khan's knowledge of content is unmatched, said school principal Charles Nolan.
Hatfield College Boat Club (HCBC) was founded in 1846 and has been progressing and expanding ever since. The club has enjoyed many successes over the years. Recently the Women's Squad has achievedconsiderable success under the coaching of Jamie Watson, qualifying for the Academic IVs at Women's Henley in 2013 and 2014.
Grey College Association is an organisation designed to keep past members (alumni) of Grey College in touch with and provide support to the College. Established in 1959 to support graduating membersof the college for those first few years, the original President was the Master of the day, Sydney Holgate. As the number of alumni grew, the Association expanded and in time Dr Holgate stood aside, making way for a number of Presidents over the last four decades.
In Peterlee, the College re-located in 2009 into an exciting £36 million new build development. Needless to say, the complex is one of the most modern educational facilities in the region and onewhich staff, students and the public at large are justifiably proud of. Along with its specially designed state-of-the-art classrooms and work areas, the College also showcases a 500 seater sports arena and the area's only dedicated specialist theatre.
